What is Primary Care?
Primary Care is a term used to describe various types of health care providers who acts as a first point of consultation for patients. They are a very important part of your overall health.
Who’s Who?
Family Practice physicians treat patients of all ages. They complete a three-year family medicine residency after their medical degree and focus on treating an individual throughout all of his or her life stages. They often treat entire families, providing continuity of care for you and your loved ones.
Internal Medicine/Geriatrics physicians diagnose and provide nonsurgical treatment of diseases in adults. They are required to have three years of postgraduate training dedicated to learning how to prevent, diagnose, and treat diseases that affect adults.
Pediatric/Adolescent Medicine physicians specialize in the general medical care of infants and children. The smaller body is substantially different physiologically from that of an adult. Concerns about congenital defects, genetic variance, and developmental issues are significant to these patients.
Obstetrician/Gynecologist (OB/GYN) physicians manage the health and well-being of women. Including female reproductive organs providing care for both pregnant and non-pregnant patients. Many women use their OB/GYN as their primary care physician.
Nurse-Midwives are advanced practice nurses who specialize in the practice of obstetrical and gynecological care of relatively healthy women. Most nurse-midwives have a Master of Science in Nursing in addition to being a Registered Nurse.
