The pharmacy is dedicated to ensuring that the medications ordered by prescribers are the correct medication, correct dose, and correct frequency for you.  Medication safety is priority number one.  Medication errors are the 4th leading cause of death in the U.S.  The pharmacy staff at LMH is trained to bring quality service to patients of all ages.

Services:
LHS pharmacy services various areas (Inpatients of LMH, Residents of LBCC, and Outpatients).
The Lakeside teamwork environment allows for communication with various members of the health care team to ensure that patients' medications are delivered to the bedside in a prompt, safe and effective manner.  This allows patients to concentrate on healing, not having to worry if they are receiving the correct medication for their condition.

Pharmacists monitor antibiotics daily for appropriateness. It is important to choose the correct antibiotic from the start to allow for thorough resolution of infection.  Drugs are affected by the body in different ways by different patients.  That is why pharmacists perform pharmacokinetic drug monitoring for various medications as another step in patient safety.

Many drugs look alike and others sound alike.  Lakeside has built in features throughout the department to ensure you receive the intended medication. If you’re interested in the 2008 LHS Look alike/sound alike list [Click Here].

The largest safety feature was the addition of Pyxis 3500, the leader in automated dispensing cabinets, in the Fall of 2007.  This computerized system allows for medications to be stocked on the units in individual pockets that are opened by a nurse after a pharmacist has reviewed an order written by a prescriber.  This decreases the chance a nurse chooses the wrong medication because in most cases they only have access to one drug (that the pharmacist has reviewed and deemed appropriate).

When it comes to compounding intravenous medications, sterility is of utmost importance.  The USP <797> sterile compounding guidelines go into effect on June 1, 2008.  LHS pharmacy is ready for it.  New renovations and the purchase of a Barrier Isolator allow for compounding to be done in a Class 5 environment.

LHS pharmacy has a state of the art drug information program (Micromedex online) to assist in answering various questions from the health care team, patients included!   When you are discharged, customizable drug information leaflets are available.

Lakeside Community Pharmacy is a fully functioning outpatient pharmacy that operates just like the retail chains you may be used to.  Our friendly atmosphere and welcoming staff make a stop to the pharmacy seem less like a burden.  Wait times for prescriptions are much less than you’d find at other pharmacies. We carry most of the same medications at a very comparable cost.  Most prescriptions insurance plans (Medicare Part D included) are accepted. Come check out the Lakeside experience.

As always, your pharmacy staff is here to answer your questions.  Feel free to call us with a question to help ease your mind.  Pharmacists are the last step before the prescribed medication reaches you and we want to make sure you know what it is for, how best to take it and what to expect from it.
